The exhibition deals with the archetypal behaviors of the human species as well as the collective unconscious as it forms after the fermentations of history. Using historical material, historical photos, film frames and documentaries, folk illustrations, news footage, and low resolution photos from mobile cameras, he composes an iconography of ambiguous content where the visitor can see at the same time the hectic and uncertain present we are experiencing, but also a dramatic scene from the depths of time or that has not yet taken place. A characteristic feature of Aggelos Merges’ approach and reflection is the distant observation of human rituals through a perspective that, without judging, deals with what he sees with the curiosity and affection of the archaeologist who discovers new findings.
